A trip into the Danakil Depression with an ascent to the summit of the Erta Alé volcano

Day 1
Addis Abeba-Harar 
Overnight stay : Hotel in Harar. Drive to Harar accross the Ahmar mountains offering an amazing landscape until we arrive in the beautiful city of Harar and its 82 mosques |
Day 2
Sightseeing day in Harar 
Overnight stay : Hotel in Harar. Walk in and around the walled city and visit to the Harar museum and Arthur Rimbaud's house. In the evening, we participate in the Hyena feeding ceremony. |
Day 3
Harar-Awash 
Overnight stay : Hotel in Awash. Excursion inside the Awash national park which offers quite good wildlife and an interesting range of volcanic beautiful landscapes. |

Day 4
Awash-Semera 
Overnight stay: Hotel in Semera. Early start to reach Semere and get the necessary permission for a visit to the Danakil Depression. |
Day 5
Semera-Afdera 
Overnight stay: Campsite in Afdera. We drive through the desolate landscape to Afdera saltlake. We visit the salt extractors at the lakeside. |
Day 6
Afdera-Erta Alé 
Overnight at the top of the volcano. We drive at the base camp of Erta Alé passing several hamlets. Rest in Dodom, before starting the trek up to to the rim of the volcano (3 hours) where we spend the night watching the dramatic action of the boiling lava. |

Day 7
Erta Alé-Hamed Ela 
Overnight stay: Campsite in Hamed Ela. Early in the morning you will have time to walk around pits and craters. Walk back to Dodom for breakfast. Drive to Hamed Ela along the huge Assale saltlake. |
Day 8
Hamed Ela-Dallol-Hamed Ela 
Overnight stay: Campsite in Hamed Ela. Drive to Lake Assale where you see the tribes extracting the bar salt from the salt plain. Excursion to the Dallol, one of the lowest places in the world., covered by colorful phosphate. |
Day 9
Hamed Ela-Mekele 
Overnight stay: Hotel in Mekele. Drive back to the civilization through the river bed following the camel caravans we met during our trip. |

Day 10
Mekele-Addis Abeba 
Transfer to the airport. Back to Addis by flight. In the afternoon you can do your last shopping or rest in the hotel. |
